Response Limit allows you to automatically stop collecting responses once a set number of completed submissions has been reached.
When the limit is enabled, new participants will no longer be able to start the interaction once the maximum is hit - they will see your Closed Message instead.
Where to Find It
- The Response Limit setting is in the Deliver tab, right below the Open/Close Dates section.
- By default, the toggle is off.
- Turn it on to set the maximum number of responses allowed.
- When the toggle is on, you will see a text box where you can enter a number - this becomes your limit.
How It Works
Only completed responses count toward the response limit.
IMPORTANT:
- A response is counted as complete when all questions from the Edit tab have been answered - even if fields in the Registration tab were left blank. If you want registration fields (like name, email, etc.) to be required for a response to count, move those fields to the Edit tab so they are part of the completion check.
- Partial or in-progress responses do not count toward the limit.
- Once the limit is reached:
- New participants cannot start - they will see the Closed Message.
- Participants who already have the interaction open can still submit - this means the total may go slightly over the limit if several people finish at the same time.
- Example:
- Limit set to 100
- 99 responses completed
- 2 users open the survey at the same time
- Both submit - total becomes 101 responses
Deleting Responses
If you delete responses, they are removed from the count.
If this brings the total below the limit, the interaction automatically reopens (unless it’s closed for another reason, like an end date).
Response Limit + Open/Close Dates
You can use both settings together.
The interaction will close based on whichever comes first:
- Response limit reached, or
- End date/time
Setting a Limit After Responses Have Been Collected
If you enable the limit after some responses are already collected:
The existing responses are counted toward the total.
Only the remaining number of submissions will be accepted.
Example:
- 12 responses already exist
- You enable Response Limit and set it to 50
- Only 38 more responses will be accepted (50 total).
Customizing the Closed Message
When you turn on the Response Limit, you can also click Customize “Limit Reached” Message to create a message participants will see once the interaction stops accepting new responses.
