The Word Cloud feature allows you to visualize participant responses to unscored short answer questions in a visually engaging way. When enabled, responses are displayed as a “word cloud” in the Results View, with the most frequently mentioned words shown in larger text.

This option is available for Surveys, Quizzes, Outcome Quizzes, and Live Mode interactions.

It looks like this:

How to Enable Word Cloud Display for Regular Interactions

To enable the Word Cloud view for unscored short answer questions:

  1. Navigate to the Edit tab of your interaction.
  2. Choose a short answer question and make sure it is unscored.
  3. In the question settings, check the box: “Show Responses as a Word Cloud”.

    4. Ensure that the “Questions & Answers” block is enabled in the Results View—otherwise, the Word Cloud will not be displayed.

Word Cloud in Live Mode

In Live Mode, the Word Cloud option is enabled by default for unscored short answer questions and cannot be disabled. This ensures a consistent and engaging experience for real-time audience interaction. The word cloud will automatically appear on screen when responses are received—no additional setup is required.

Interactive Controls (Live Mode Only)

During a Live Mode session, presenters can hover over individual words in the word cloud to temporarily remove them from the display. This is useful for filtering out distracting or inappropriate words on the fly, without affecting data collection or reporting.

To remove a word, hover over the word and click the trash icon that appears:

Removed words will disappear from the live word cloud but will still appear in reporting.

How the Word Cloud Works

  • The Word Cloud is designed to highlight themes and trends in participant responses:
  • More frequent words appear larger.
  • All words are displayed horizontally.
  • A basic profanity filter is applied using a public list of inappropriate words to ensure a professional experience.
  • By default, a multi-color palette is used for visual impact.
  • Multi-word phrases like “customer success” will be displayed as phrases. If you prefer users to submit single words, you can instruct them accordingly. You can also apply character limits to help prevent longer phrases.
